I am looking for a practical answer to this UPSC question: Which are the best books for general studies for IAS?

I am trying to avoid collecting too many resources, so please suggest only the books or material that genuinely helped. It would also help if you mention how to revise them effectively.

I would keep the source list much tighter than what most online lists suggest. One standard source per subject and repeated revision is usually enough.

That is usually where preparation starts feeling more manageable.

- NCERTs or basic sources for foundation

- previous year questions beside every subject
- short revision notes in your own words
