A tough grading system usually feels harsh because the peer group is strong and the institute expects consistency. That does not always mean the system is unfair, but it can definitely feel demanding.

That is where the difference between image and reality usually shows up.
What I would ask seniors:
- does the first semester hit students hard
- are professors helpful before exams
- how much do internals affect the final grade
- can one weak semester be recovered easily

That is the part I would double-check before taking any strong opinion seriously.
