Maths Optional UPSC?

I would shortlist an optional only after checking: - can I stay with this subject for a long cycle - do the PYQs feel readable - is there enough guidance and evaluation help - does the subject suit my strengths That small shift alone can save a lot of time.
Is there any need for UPSC coaching classes?

Coaching can help with structure, but it is not a guarantee of progress. Plenty of students do well without it once they have a clear plan and the discipline to follow it. That is usually where preparation starts feeling more manageable.
